The backward heels were created by artist Leanie van der Vyver in cooperation with shoe designer René van den Berg. According to them, these heels are the newest way of manipulating fashion just like doing plastic surgery in human bodies to achieve a certain standard.

The goal in creating these heels is to "challenge our current beauty ideals by inflicting unexpected new beauty standards."
If you thought that your 5-inch Topshop heels were the killer of all heels, think again. These heels are way too high! It has inverted insoles connected to a spiky front heel with buckled straps. With that style, it forces the user to walk in a squat position.

Despite of the difficulty in wearing these shoes, the shoe design jury applauded these heels because it forces the wearer to develop a new style of walking and because the craftsmanship was based in South African Architecture.
