[Make-up] The Makeup Shelf Life List

Nothing lasts forever, makeup included. I know you probably have a favorite lipstick or maybe an eyeliner that's been sharpened down to no more than a nub. But there comes a point when you would have to let them go not because you've fully consumed them, but because they have become unfortunate breeding grounds for bacteria.

So the question here is, when to throw them out? Here is a no fuss guide to help you.

Foundation
Most liquid types in bottles are designed to last 1-2 years but it's best if you replace it after 6-12 months.

Concealer
Powder and stick forms can last up to 2 years while liquid forms should be tosed after 1 year.

Face Powder
They'll be good for up to 2 years.

Blush
The same rules as the face powder but cream-based blushes should be replaced after 1 year.

Eye Shadow
Replace powder shadows after 3 months.

Mascara, Liquid or Pencil Eyeliner
Any type of eye makeup must be replaced every 2-3 months to be safe from eye redness, itchiness or even conjunctivitis a.k.a. the pinkeye.

Lipstick, Lip Gloss and Lip Pencil
Since they are repeatedly used onto the mouth area, replace after a year or if you've recently been sick.

Brushes, Sponges and other Makeup Tools
A good set of brushes can last for years until the bristles start to fray or fall out. Clean them thoroughly every 2 weeks with a gentle hair shampoo and store them upright in a glass when they can properly air out.

Perfume
Stash it away in a cool, dark place and it'll be good for 2 long years.

Nail Polish
Lacquer usually keeps for 1 year until it dries out and remains curdled even after shaking.

In case you develop a skin or an eye irritation or any similar symptom that won't go away for 1-2 days, see your doctor immediately.
